Add-on: Carbon Emissions Tracking.
Know your carbon footprint.

OBDS and ETS Aviation have paired up to completely solve your emissions reporting problem!

Pilots use ONE quick-entry form in their EFB after each flight and ETS Aviation handles all the rest!

Problem solved!

The
EU Emissions Directive will add a bit of new paperwork to owning an operating aircraft, but, perhaps it's paper worth thinking about...

The Rules of the Game

As of January 2010, all aircraft over 5.7 tonnes and emitting more than 10,000 tonnes of CO2 are required to monitor emissions when travelling in European airspace.

By March 2011, the data must be verified and submitted.

2010 and 2011 will be the first years when aviation operators must report emissions, if they wish to be allocated any free allowances, but the requirement to pay for actual emissions and tonne-kilometres will begin in 2012

"In 2012, 85% of all allowances for the aviation sector will be allocated free of charge, and the remainder will be auctioned.  The free allowances will be allocated on the basis of the emissions for the calendar year 2010, which have to be reported to the Commission by 31 March 2011.*" - according to Jeremy Robinson of the international law firm Bird & Bird.

The Benefits
Beyond the obvious benefit of being a responsible global citizen, logging fuel emissions may turn out to be a key to optimizing fuel efficiencies and perhaps even saving money.

How can you optimize your fuel usage, until you've got a clear record of how you're burning it?

It's like going on a diet before you know exactly how much you've been eating.

A Total Solution

ETS Aviation Ltd. and On-Board Data Systems have developed a system that uses EFBs and online data entry to minimize the effort required to implement an ETS plan, to simplify the recording process, collect the data, prepare the reports and ensure that compliance is complete.

All flights need to be entered into the ETS Footprinter Form on the pilot's EFB (electronic flight bag) so that the fuel/aircraft history is complete. No internet connection is required as the data is automatically sent to a centralized server after each "sync" using either OBDS MFB™ or OBDSsync™.

The system can automatically chain together flights so that the entire fuel history -- regardless of whether the flight is an ETS Flight or not -- is recorded.

Any cleanups or edits can be made after the fact on the website.

In this way, the
complete carbon footprint for the emissions is logged. In addition to the obvious regulatory compliance, logging this information provides data that can be used for analysis to improve fleet fuel efficiency, identifying inefficiencies, unexpected fuel burns, perhaps eventually prompting a switch to Biofuels.

This regulation promises to be a
very interesting exercise for operators around the world that may herald a new era of more cost-effective flying.
Aviation Footprinter™ organizes emission reporting to simplify administration and accounting for the entire fleet.

Pilots log fuel usage and weight for each flight using either the EFB-based pilot interface, or the online interface.

The information is centralized on the
www.etsaviation.com website, which aggregates the data and crosschecks it for accuracy, automatically converting units and using aircraft manufacturer fuel figures.

The system produces emission reports according to verifier and regulator requirements.

Problem solved.
